Week 2: Weathering the Storm... Unafraid
Bible Reading...
Genesis 6:9-13, 17-22; 7:6-10; 8:10-17
Matthew 14:22-33
We have an intuitive fear of the chaos of storms. You can see this in small children when they get scared at thunder and lightning... until they get a little older and we have to remind them not to go outside in it! Noah weathered a tremendous storm on little more than his faith. Ultimately, God showed His goodness to Noah.

Christ also demonstrated His authority over the chaos of storms by appearing to His disciples. Not only did Jesus weather the storm, He took a stroll ON TOP OF THE WATER through it! Recognizing God's authority over all things helps us have the faith to weather all our life's storms.
Memorize and Internalize
Then the Lord said to Noah, "Enter the ark, you and all your household, for I have seen that you alone are righteous before me in this generation.
(Genesis 7:1)

Immediately, Jesus spoke to them, "Have courage! It is I! Do not be afraid."
(Matthew 14:27)
Engage
Let's get engaged with this week's lesson. God showed His dominion over the earth when He sent a flood and instructed Noah to build the ark. He did it again when Jesus walked on the water during a storm to tell His disciples "Have courage! It is I!". Let's connect by thinking of things that make us nervous and watching them slowly melt away. As they do, think about how Christ melts away our own fears and anxieties when we face life's big and small storms.

Fill Your Storm Vase
Get a medium-sized, clear container for each person and fill it with water. Even better if you can add some food coloring. If possible, add a bit of white vinegar... just enough to make the water acidic, not enough to smell up your kitchen!

Write Down An Anxiety or Fear
Each day, use a marker to write down something that makes your nervous or scared on a piece of toilet paper (the cheaper, the better). Crumble it up and drop it into your storm vase. Give it a little stir if it needs some help dissolving.

Toss Those Fears!
At the end of the week, take a look at your storm vase and look at how much of a mess all those anxieties and fears became! God takes care of our fears and tells us "Have confidence. It is I!" Take that icky water and toss it outside or flush it down the drain!

Meditate Through Prayer
Complete your activity by praying that God would give you the peace and confidence to weather any storm, that you would have the faith when you are scared and that God would comfort you in uncertain times. Pray thanksgiving to God for His faithfulness and for always being there for us.
