Week 4: Guilt Free... God Restored!

Bible Reading...
Genesis 37:1-4, 26-28; 41:39-41;
45:3-5
Luke 18:9-14

Imagine everyone's life is like a movie with heroes, side-kicks, and villains.  Do you think that anyone sees themself as the villain?  No, we want to think we're the hero!  Unfortunately, we all mess up and before too long we can feel like the villain.  Making matters worse, sometimes people try making you feel worse about mistakes you made and won't let you forget them.

Joseph, son of Jacob, made his own mistakes, but they pale in comparison to what his brothers did to him.  They SOLD HIM INTO SLAVERY!  Joseph was able to find favor with his new rulers and became very powerful.  He had a chance to get even, but he chose love instead.  The story of the whole Bible is one that emphasizes restoring those who mess up and that should make us feel way better, knowing that God doesn't consider us villains; He considers us like his own children!

Memorize and Internalize

Therefore it was not you who sent me here, but God. [...]
(Genesis 45:8a)

"[...] because everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted."
(Luke 18:14b)

Engage

Let's get engaged with this week's lesson.  Sometimes life can feel like an incomplete puzzle: we have a couple pieces but can't tell what the whole picture it.  God shows us that He has a plan for all things, even when those things don't make sense.  This week we will put together our own puzzles.  Each day you'll put together more of the puzzle but the final picture won't be revealed until the last day.  Think about how sometimes we don't know the entire picture, but through faith and doing what God calls us to do, more and more of it is revealed!

Week 3 Activity 1.jpg

Create Your Kid's Puzzle

Draw or print a picture on paper (thicker paper or posterboard works best).  Cut the paper into puzzle pieces.  Make at least one piece for each day, but more pieces can be made to make things more challenging.  For multiple kids, parents may want to put make pieces from different colored paper.

Hide Pieces and Make Clues

Hide each puzzle piece and create clues for where to find them.  Clues can either point to a location or require them to complete tasks to reveal the location.  Get creative!

Send Kids Searching

Each day, give a clue or task to your kids to reveal the location of different pieces.  Once found, tape the pieces on a wall or door until they have recreated the picture.  Think each day of something God has shown you piece by piece!

Meditate Through Prayer

Complete your activity by praying that God would forgive you for your mistakes and give you peace and joy to follow.  Pray for those around you who have made mistakes against you and that you are strong enough to show them love just as Christ loves you.
