Week 1: In The Beginning... Was God's Purpose
Bible Reading...
Genesis 1:1 - 2:3
John 1:1-18
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. We're all familiar with this little line, but do you ever just stop and think about what that means? God is big, sure, but he is actually BIGGER than everything we know. In the beginning God created which means God existed BEFORE creation.

When you find yourself down, when people are picking on you at school, when you are having a hard time at work, remember that God isn't just "bigger than your troubles"... He's bigger than it all. The same God that was there BEFORE this world is the same God that you have in your heart.
Memorize and Internalize
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
(Genesis 1:1)

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
(John 1:1)
Engage
Let's get engaged with this week's lesson. God worked each day of the week and finished by declaring "it is good". In this case, "good" meant that it was complete and purposeful. This week, we will roleplay this by highlighting things we do each day and then writing down what the purpose was for each task. As you do this, remember that the things God does in your life have purpose. That means that if we live our lives in a way that we follow Christ's teachings, we are living a more purposeful life.

Create a Task Board
Build a table on a piece of posterboard, a whiteboard, or something else you can display in your home. Make a column for each weekday. Make a row for "Tasks" and a row for "Purpose". You can either have one board for each child or one for the whole family.

Write Down A Task
Write down a task performed each day. These can be scheduled ahead of time, or written down after the day is done. Tasks can be chores, good deeds, activities, or anything else!

Define the Purpose
Write down WHY you did that task (and try not to say "because mom and dad told me so"). Discuss if you felt good getting the task completed. Would it have felt as good if there was no purpose behind it? Complete the exercise each day by thinking of a purposeful task you can do the next day.

Meditate Through Prayer
Complete your activity by praying that God shows you His purpose in your life. Pray that God gives you the strength to do the purposeful work He wants you to do. Thank God for giving us purpose and letting us be a part of His plan.
