Let me ask you a question. “When Superman took off his Superman outfit who was he? Most people answer with the obvious answer, “well, he was Clark Kent of course.” The correct
answer is, he was still Superman. You see, it didn’t matter what clothes he was wearing. He was still Superman on the inside. His strength came not from the uniform he wore but from the power within. The same goes for you and me.
“We have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power of God belongs to God and not to us.” (2 Corinthians 4:7 esv)
The fact is our power does not come from things that are external like our careers, jobs, socio/economic status, family name, or anything else. Our power and strength comes from our heart, soul, spirit that is united with God’s Spirit. It’s that union or should I say “communion” with God’s Spirit which makes us more powerful than most of us realize. It allows us to say and believe in things like:
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Phil 4:13)
“Rejoice in the Lord always, again I say rejoice.” (Phil 4:4)
“…Give thanks in all things…” (1 Thess 5:16-18)
Here is something else you need to know about Superman. He used his superpowers to help others. In just about every comic book, movie scene, or TV show, Superman was coming to the rescue of society. He was saving lives. Improving lives. Fighting against the evil that opposed him.
We have also been given super human power and we are meant to use it. Not just to improve our lives but to also help others. Like all super heroes, we have been given the greatest power in the world. The power to make a difference in the life of another human being. And that comes from our own transformation when we are united with Christ.
You don’t need a special suit, a title, or a super hero name. You just need to tap into the love, mercy, grace, love, strength, and passion that comes from a life connected with God and His Son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Do that and watch the transformation that occurs in your own life and in the life of others.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Frank
